A Joyful Man: Dave Jannett

Dave Jannett, an 85 year old Navy Veteran from Newark, NJ shares his story of purpose and reason. He sits ready, wide-eyed with a warm smile to be interviewed. His greeting is humble, receptive and yet shy. He starts his journey from high school, telling us how he wasn’t the traditional student to follow the academia route. He recalls, excelling in public school, with strong abilities within music, gym and the like. It wasn’t till high school with careful consideration he opted to dropout. His teacher suggested him to vocational technical school so he won’t live in distress all throughout high school. He attended that school, but at age 17 he enlisted to the Navy where he found a life direction. He was required to complete 6 weeks of boot camp training in San Diego before they could evaluate him and send him to learn a trade. The Navy tested his abilities and permitted him to train in diesel. Years after being discharged from the Navy, Dave extends his expertise with a Radio show for callers that need advice or trouble shoot various mechanical items. His specialties are that of diesel mechanics, appliances, and repair services.

Although Dave never felt hindered by not graduating high school, a part of him felt incomplete. It wasn’t until a friend approached him to substitute occasional classes at a trade school. The only hold back was the fact that Dave never graduated high school in order to obtain teaching credentials. The administrator of the school set him up for a GED preparatory course to better his odds of passing the required score. However, Dave chose not to attend the preparation course. When the day arrived for the GED exam he simply tested against 5 subjects, and passed with an Above Average score, making it obvious that he in actuality is a very intelligent man.
Three weeks later he received his LAUSD teaching degree. He began teaching as a sub at a skill center. He taught adults and loved it because they were really motivated and interested in the subjects. He taught many technical engineering subjects like electrical, plumbing, automobile breaks, automobile repair, diesel and refrigeration. Since then, his purpose and career flourished along with his personal confidence. He launched a repair and appliance business making him the “Mr. Fix” to the stars.

Although it remains only a fraction of his tale-tale journey, the untraditional man Dave Jannett truly found his niche. Today he continues to fill the heart of people with his music and stories. Although he indeed accomplished many things in his life, Jannett is a man of giving. He loves that he has something to offer and is able to help others to learn, experience and be joyful.

Jannett always thought that by being a shy guy it allowed him to be a sharp and smart person. He now is able to preform 500 songs without having to read the lyrics or notes. He’s also known to travel with Judy Garland in his day. Nowadays, Jannet is not shy at all. He performs with his guitar and harmonica. He also teaches the seniors citizens how to play the harmonica. It brings Jannett joy to see their faces when they are proud of learning a new song.

Memorial Day Weekend Annual Pool Party

7000 Hollywood Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90028
(323) 466-7000

For the past 5+ yrs., The Memorial Day pool party has been held at the legendary Roosevelt Hotel @ Tropicana Bar in the heart of Hollywood. It’s an anticipated check-in to guarantee fun in the sun, food, drinks, entertainment, and beautiful people along with iSpy celebrities.  As a local getaway, it’s a wonderful escape to poolside lounging, where people can kick back without a worry and have a cocktail, or Cool-off and take a dip in the always perfectly temperature pool, all while enjoying the scenery. Good times, Good food, and Good looks are spot-on the menu.

Time & Place
Located on Hollywood Blvd, Guests traditionally book the weekend to stay on the premises for the entirety of Memorial weekend, 4 days and 4 four night. Rooms vary in price ranging from $285- $425 per night.

Who are the attendees?
California natives are known to book in advance, to ensure admittance to the Tropicana Bar or one of the well known Night Clubs. The MDW scene has been the party of the year, we now find returning guests visiting from NY, San Francisco and Miami. Beautiful people from across the map that want to relive the party fun of the previous year and reconnect with other partygoers they have met.

How is Quality of the stay?
Upon arrival Valet is ready to receive your car, bellboys are attentive to handle luggage and front desk is awaiting to check-in your RSVP. All swiftly executed within minutes of your arrival just in time to start the party. The rooms are decent with a choice of a poolside cabana for instant pool mingling, duplex suite or penthouse for some reclusiveness. Maintenance is good, house keeping, room service and front desk are always on-call. Down comforters and cozy pillows is a recipe for a sleep-in.

Does this hold up to past events?
From the vibe of the scene, some returning guests were not pleased with this years’ pool party, complaints related to additional charges for the pool access that now required bracelets. This includes limiting 2 wristbands per room at $40 dollars each. Others felt, the quality of Tinsel town glam has faded, and the music wasn't hoppin' as the previous year with guest DJs. Perhaps they need their previous promoters to revamp this once awesome party scene.  All in all, food, drinks, and an amazing pool are guaranteed!

The Truth About Tarot

Throughout the ages many people have been skeptical about the nature of Psychic Tarot readings. Some are simply superstitious; others fearful, and the curious tend to be psychic fanatics. However, there are a few misconceptions related to the Tarot in regards to its origin and purpose.

In my opinion, the misconceptions are the product of uninformed individuals. The lack of knowledge hovers a dark cloud on a mystical subject. For example, Tarot is not a religion. Nor is it a byproduct of Satanism. Its origins stems from many different avenues. In designing the Tarot gypsies and Egyptians tried to formulate various card combinations to correlate every possible life circumstance a person may experience. Another assumption is a tarot reader can fix your problems. Tarot cannot undo any misfortune of mishaps or rectify the circumstance of bad choices. Nor can it promote better health or riches.

So what’s the Purpose? Why would a person turn to Tarot?

It is primarily due to stress, uncertainty or perhaps anticipation that people are motivated to seek some sort of guidance. This may very well relate to Career, Love, Health, or Simply Life direction. With a personal interest I’ve been a student of tarot for many years. With that I find the following most accurate:

Tarot is a tool based on spiritual energies. The pulling of the cards is to offer insights to any inner being. It is designed to subconsciously expose an individuals’ old way of the past, revealing one’s potential and challenges they may hold within the present. A tarot reading is a mere prediction, like checking the weather forecast, you’d like to know if it’s a sunny day, in hopes of going to the beach. A tarot reading will always point to the condition of a person's immediate future, in effort to guide the seeker towards a spiritual path; yet, the Tarot is not the final predictor of any outcome, only the potential, for it is truly the individual who is the infinite author of their own destiny.
